Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

We flew into Siem Reap from Hoi An and within 2 minutes of being in the country we were asked to essentially pay a bribe by the Customs official!   Anyway, we saw through it and feigned ignorance! Siem Reap compared to Hoi An and HCM felt very undeveloped.

We stayed at a boutique hotel called L'Riviere d'Angkor Resort that had a French Colonial feel about it. Siem Reap was hot hot hot and the girls really appreciated the pool.
Our room was on the top floor of the building in the background
Girls' favourite part of the day was iPad time in bed!

We did venture out of the comforts of our hotel and coolness of the pool to visit walk into town to check out the market and the famous Pub Street.

Off course, the main reason why we were in Siem Reap was to visit Angkor Wat.  What we didn't realise was that Angkor Wat was only 1 of a number of temples that are on the World Heritage listing.  We bought a temple pass for a day and attempted to do 3 temples in the one day.  We could have done a 3 day pass but I knowing the kids and the heat, we knew that thy would probably not be happy going back to another temple after one day!

We hired a tuk tuk driver for the day and he took us around to the temples.

Our first temple was Ta Prohm temple which was made famous by Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider movie. This was previously a monastery and the roots of the trees in the jungle are growing over the temples giving it a mysterious feel.
Abby clearly not that impressed!

Hot and bothered!

After a couple of hours we jumped back into our tuk tuk and headed to the next temple, Bayon Temple.  Bayon is known for its many stone faces.
