When in Rome ... the Vatican, Piazza Navona, Pantheon and the Spanish Steps

Thinking we could beat the crowds we thought we would visit the Vatican on a Friday and get there early .... hmmmm our early was 10am and by the time we got there the queue for St Peter's basilica was already right around the Vatican square and beyond and the approximate wait time would be around 2 hours!  There was no way we were going to attempt to wait so we admire the dome from a far and had a morning tea picnic in the Vatican square gazing at the all the incredible statutes and domes and the weary looking tourists lining up !

The girls did not mind not being able to get it in, Eloise was happy to learn what the Vatican and the Pope and Abbey was content chasing pigeons !

So we left the Vatican and crossed the Tiber River to get into town.

Abbey was very excited to see her name on the shop front!
Lunch was you guess it, pizza !

We then made our way to Rome's famous sights

Piazza Navona

 Next up was the Pantheon

There were lots of photo opportunities as we strolled the streets of Rome.

We also did see the Trevi Fountain but that was covered in scaffolding for repair works and the Spanish Steps were covered with people so did not bother with the photos !

The kids were exhausted so we found that Metro and stumbled upon a vanilla slice for Brett!

There was one final stop on the way home, Santa Maggiore which was only a mere 1500 years old ! It was Saturday afternoon and it looked like Saturday mass was under way.

Finally we were home !
