Auf Wiedersehen Austria and Dobra Den Czech Republic! We left picturesque Hallstatt for Cesky Krumlov, another very picturesque old town. Cesky Krumlov is in the Czech Republic about 2 hours from the Austrian border and is a town built around the river.
We loved walking (and resting!) around its windy streets
It was a hot day and one took shade shelter whenever one could! |

Resting on the bridge and eating Tradleniks |
Hmmm no guns, no drugs, no Russians and no ties! |
Walking off dinner! |
Resting at our favourite lookout |
Not sure who he was but he was always at the lookout! |
Another great view of Cesky Krumlov was the lookout tower. It is without doubt a landmark in Cesky Krumlov. We climbed the tower and the view from up the top was pretty amazing.

Look of horror upon discovering a skeleton on one of the lower levels of the tower! |

We also explored other parts of the castle. At the entrance of the castle where the moat was, lived two bears who acted as the guardians of the castle. The girls were fascinated by them as it was the first time they have seen brown bears up close!

We also spent one afternoon rafting down the river into Cesky Krumlov. Well the girls rafted all about 5 minutes before they put down their oars to wait for the next slide that the raft will go through!
Cesky Krumlov was also a great foodie destination. Each meal we had there was excellent and great value (cheap!).
Bohemian feast of pheasant and medieval millet, ham, cabbage and bread dumplings ... $10 AUD! |
The girls loved their Bohemian platters at The 2 Marys on the river in Cesky Krumlov |
Another great restaurant we found was Restaurant Konvice. We ate on their terrace which had this terrific view of the Castle lookout tower and when a hot air balloon flew past the tower, it looked pretty magical. The discovery for us though was a typical Czech soup of dill with cream soup (sorry no photo, it was so good we forgot to take a photo of it before it was demolished) and the traditional Czech dessert of dumplings with whole apricot and shaved cottage cheese ... to die for ! We had two soups, four main courses, 3 glasses of wine and 3 desserts for a total of about $60AUD!! And as you can see from the photos the serves were huge!

We also ate a restaurant which was notoriously difficult to get into and had an equally difficult name to pronounce ...Krcma v Satlavske Ulici. It is a meat lovers restaurant with everything cooked on their open fire grill. They are famous for their pork knuckle which came with lots of mustard, baked potato and some picked cabbage.

UNO while we wait for our meal! |

Goulash soup |
Abbey was a little astounded at the size of the pork knuckle! |
Melting of the bone pork knuckle ... could only eat half of it! All this for less than AUD 15! |
Baked trout | |
Another food discovery for us was the Tradlenik. It is a doughy Czech street food that is rolled in some sugar. It quickly became the girls favourite snack (actually it was their lunch on a couple of days!).
Trdelniks! |
Cesky Krumlov was also hauntingly beautiful to explore at night.
