Prague

All previous impressions of Prague being a cold city has been shattered as we arrived in Prague during a heat wave where everyday was about 35 degrees. There was very little breeze and it was stiffling with very little shade and cool relief to be found!  Despite the heat we did manage to see the sights and found it to be a beautiful city.

There is off course the Charles Bridge to walk over and admire.

Charles Bridge ...must be very sacred as all the locals touch it and say a prayer

Prague is famous for its medieval Astronomical Clock which is in the old city. On the hour every hour the clock comes alive!

Another must see in Prague is Prague Castle that sits up high on a hill.  So we headed out one hot hot day and survived!  For the kids the best part of the day was without doubt finding the water truck!

We also loved walking around Prague and finding their interesting art installations. Some where just literally hanging around!

We could even create our own works of art on bricks
We also loved the buildings and architecture in Prague. It took us a long time to get anywhere because we kept on stopping to admire the buildings!

We also found out that Prague has its own smaller version of the Eiffel Tower, called Petrin Tower. It is no coincidence that it looks very similar to the Eiffel Tower as it was built in 1891 with the Eiffel Tower as its inspiration. It apparently has great views over Prague, so we caught the funicular up to it on a hot hot day but it was so hot we just could not bring ourselves to climb it so we laid on the grass instead and admired the view from a lower level!

Hot !
Waiting for a breeze
Too hot to climb or walk but still managed to get a nice view of Prague

We loved the food in Prague and found it very affordable.

We had lunch one day at Cafe Louvre which is a bit of an institution in Prague. It was here that many of the intellectuals gathered including the famous author Franz Kafka and Einstein. When the Communists came, they threw out all the furniture and crockery through the Cafe Louvre large windows.  It has since reopened after extensive restoration and it now looks like it once did.

Apple Strudel at Cafe Louvre
The girls have become Apple Strudel connoisseurs!
However, we also saw lots of Asian restaurants around that was frequented by locals so we thought we would take a break from the rather heavy Czech food and tried some Vietnamese.  Well, the taste was very authentic and the girls devoured their bowls of pho. The large bowl of pho was roughly AUD 5!

Prague at night was a pretty stunning city and as the weather was so hot there were still a lot of people out late in the night.
