Day 6 in Kyoto took us to Fushimi Inari Shrine which is famous for the thousands of red tori gates. Each tori gate is purchased and donated by a family. The gates straddle a network of trails behind the main shrine and made for a very pleasant walk.
Fushimi Inari is a shrine dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice and foxes are believed to be Inari's messengers, so there were lots of fox statutes everywhere.
After Fushimi Inari we got back on the train and headed back to Kyoto station which is like a city in itself and had huge sushi lunch that would not have cost us more than $50! To get tot he restaurants we did have to go up a few levels of very steep looking escalators.

Lunchtime!
After lunch it was another temple ... Kiyomizudera which is known for its wooden stage that juts out about 13 metres from above the hillside below. From the stage there was a great view of all the cherry and maple trees below.
