Another day, another day trip. This time out to see the deers in Nara and the world's largest wooden structure!

Abbey reading up about Nara on the train trip to Nara |
On the walk to Nara Park to see the deers we came across Tofukuji temple and its pagados. There was bound to be stamps for the girls to collect for their stamping booklet so we went in search of the ubiquitous stamp and the ink pad!
It wasn't long before we saw the thousands of deers roaming Nara park. They were so tame and greedy and if you were brave enough to buy the special deer food from one of the many vendors then you best be prepared to have a group of deers follow you until you feed them. Be warned that they do get a little aggressive!

Abbey was not too keen on the deers |
Enough of the deers we went in search of Todaiji temple which is the world's largest wooden structure.

Climbing through this hole in the post brings you luck (if you can get through!) |
|
More stamps for the collection |
The deers also roamed freely outside the temple and Abbey finally worked up the courage to pat one that looked very docile and sleepy.
On the way back to the train station we came across a neighbourhood with many traditional buildings still in tact so we did a little exploring.

Autumn colours starting to come through |
One of the houses we stopped in was a former general store and Eloise was in seventh heaven as there were lots of origami and the lady there was so impressed that Eloise could make her own and was interested in it, she gave her few to keep.
It was a long train trip home and the girls kept themselves busy by writing in their travel journals or drawing.
